International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reports that the individuals were executed for drug related charges.Reports indicates that at least two other instances of mass executions have taken place in the second half of this year but no further information is available.
In June, Mashhad Prosecutor Mahmoud Zoghi stated that a high number of unannounced executions have taken place in Vakilabad Prison and 5 instances of mass executions occured in the first 3 months of the current Iranian year.
The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has reported that 12 prisoners were executed on June 29th and 18 were hanged on July 3rd. Moreover, 10, 12, 10, 12, 10, 12, 4 and 26 people were hanged on April 6th,April 13th, May 16th, May 14th, May 16th, May 23rd, May 24th and June 15th of 2011 respectively.
In June, the deputy Minister of Southern Khorasan Justice Department indirectly confirmed the mass executions in that area and stated that 140 executions took place from March 21, 2010 to March 21, 2011 in that area.
